FDL Fire And Rescue Investigate Spill

Update:

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue officials say the source of a spill in the Fond du Lac River Thursday came from the Fond du Lac County Highway garage on Dixie Street. Division Chief Troy Haase says yellow latex paint used for street painting was put in the storm sewer and it worked its way into the Fond du Lac River. It was first noticed in the area of Western and Superior. Haase says they used oil dry to slow it down and City crews later used an air bag to block it off and flushed the sewer system with water to pump out the remainder of the paint. He says they were able to contain most of the paint. The department got the call around 1:40 p.m. It came in as a hazardous materials call.

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue officials say it appears a paint-like substance spilled into the Fond du Lac River out of City’s storm sewer system. Division Chief Troy Haase says it appeared on the river in the area of Western and Superior, but was carried there through the storm sewer system. He says they are trying to determine where it came from, but believe it traveled quite a ways. Haase says they put some oil dry into the storm sewer system and that slowed the substance down. The department got the call around 1:40 p.m. this afternoon. It came in as a hazardous materials call.  Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue photos.
