FDL Fire/Rescue Honors Schaar

Fond du Lac, WI: Each year, the Fond du Lac Fire Department awards a Citizen Life Safety Award. The Citizen Life Safety Award may be given to a person outside Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue who has been involved in a life-saving effort at an emergency scene before our arrival, or who has provided extraordinary assistance to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue.

On the morning of July 18th 2014, Bradley Schaar went to work as if it was a normal day.  Little did he know that at 9:12 a.m. that morning he would become a key individual who helped save many lives at the Comfort Inn Hotel.  At 9:12 a.m., Fond du Lac Fire / Rescue responded to a report of heavy fire and smoke coming from the south area of the Comfort Inn Hotel.  The hotel has 77 rooms and all were occupied on that date.  The fire went to a 3rd level MABAS BOX alarm.  There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians; one of the reasons was due to Bradley’s actions.  Bradley provided valuable information to the incident commander on the accountability of each and every room in the hotel.  Within minutes, tactical decisions were based on solid accountability of hotel guests.  This allowed for a rapid primary search to be completed in a timely fashion and a favorable outcome.

For his actions on July 18th 2014, Bradley Schaar is awarded Fond du Lac Fire / Rescue Citizen Life Safety Award.
