FDL Fire-Rescure Called To Pier

Fond du Lac, WI: On Friday November 6, 2015 at 8:47 a.m. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a fire at Pier Elementary School at 259 Old Pioneer Road. Upon arrival, the building was being evacuated and the fire alarm was sounding.  Fire crews were met by school officials who advised the fire had been extinguished by school staff and everyone was safe and accounted for.

Fire crews investigated the area to confirm the fire was completely out. The fire was contained to a wall outside a classroom which contained student made aartwork.  There was a light haze of smoke in the vicinity  and fire crews worked to ventilate the area.  Students were guided into the gymnasium to keep warm once firefighters make sure it was safe to do so.

FDLFR was assisted by FDLPD  who provided on-scene investigation and scene control.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by the FDLPD. Police investigators are working with school officials to identify anyone who may be responsible for starting the fire. After approximately 45 minutes, the building was turned back over to the school after confirming air quality safe.

“The staff at Pier School put into action their fire evacuation plan and it worked as designed, said Fire Chief Peter O’Leary.  We are proud of the partnership we have with the school district which trains its staff on all aspects of crisis planning. Today was a perfect example of how training pays off.”
