FDL House Fire Early Christmas Morning

Three people were able to evacuate safely during a house
fire early Sunday morning in the City of Fond du Lac. Fire crews were called to
a two-story home at 473 Park Avenue around 3:19 am Sunday on a report of a
basement fire. Authorities say a nine year old boy was sleeping on the couch in
the living room on the first floor when he saw smoke. The boy alerted his
parents and all three were able to escape safely. The home was a duplex style
unit with tenants living on the second floor. They were not home at the time of
the fire. Assistant Fire Chief Steve Beer said that there were no working smoke
detectors in either the basement or first floor of the home. Beer said of the nine year old boy that he would “consider him a true hero in this situation”.  Crews were able to
contain the fire to the basement and put it out. The cause of the fire is yet
to be determined.
