FDL Looks into Special Events Ordinance Change

The City of Fond du Lac is
set to take a look at a proposed ordinance to revise the special events policy
– following deadly demonstrations in Charlottesville,
Virginia
just over a year ago.
The events of that day are the basis of several lawsuits on both the state and
federal levels, so the changes are designed to limit the city’s exposure to
litigation and ensure safe environments for every event. While the ordinance
would regulate special events, marches, and other public assemblies – the city
is working to strike a balance between free speech rights and public safety.
