FDL Man Arraigned On Reckless Injury Charges

The 47-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of driving off Winnebago Drive and critically injuring a 44-year-old Fond du Lac woman he hit with his vehicle was arraigned in Fond du Lac County Court Monday. Aarron Schmitz entered not guilty pleas to charges stemming from the May 14th accident. Schmitz is facing 2nd degree reckless injury, injury by use of a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor bail charges for the accident that injured Traci Luther. Luther was out walking went Schmitz went off the roadway and hit her. He later told Sheriff’s Deputies he had taken Albuterol and Dayquill for pneumonia, but had also smoke three cigar-sized marijuana cigarettes and drank a liter of Kessler’s Whiskey the night before. He told investigators he was on his way home from his roofing job when he fell asleep at the wheel. A motion to lower his $25,000 bond was denied. He will be back in court for a plea and sentencing hearing on October 1st and if he maintains his innocence will have a jury trial on October 29th.
