FDL Man’s Appeal On Sexual Assault Conviction Upheld

Wednesday a state appeals court upheld the conviction of a 36-year-old Fond du Lac man who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl. Jonathan Gurath was sentenced in July of 2012 to 25 years in prison and 7 years of extended supervision. He challenged the sentence on a 2nd degree sexual assault of a child conviction. Yesterday the appeals court denied his appeal and upheld the conviction. In its ruling the appeals court ruled the County Court decision on sentencing had a “rational and explainable basis” and considered appropriate sentencing factors. Altogether in case Gurath got 32 years in prison and 16 years of extended supervision on sexual assault, drug and capturing image of nudity charges.
