FDL Man Sentenced For Striking Pedestrian While Under Influence

The 48-year-old Fond du Lac man who drove off  Winnebago Drive and hit and critically injured a 44-year-old Fond du Lac woman has been sentenced to 11 years in prison and 5 ½ years of extended supervision. Aarron Schmitz was sentenced in Fond du Lac County Court this morning on a felony charge of injury by use of a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor bail jumping charge. Last May 14th Traci Luther was out walking when Schmitz went off the roadway and hit her. He later told Sheriff’s Deputies he had taken Albuterol and Dayquill for pneumonia, but had also smoked three cigar-sized marijuana cigarettes and drank a liter of Kessler’s Whiskey the night before. Blood tests later showed he may also have had cocaine in his system. He told investigators he was on his way home from his roofing job when he fell asleep at the wheel.
