FDL Native To Speak On Medicare For All

Dr. Timothy Shaw will speak on “Medicare for ALL” on February 19 in the McLane Room of the Fond du Lac Public Library at 6:45 pm.   This presentation is hosted by the Fond du Lac County Democratic Party and is free and open to the public.

Dr. Shaw will be speaking on behalf of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP). PNHP is a non-partisan, single-issue organization advocating for a universal, comprehensive single-payer national health program.  PNHP has more than 20,000 members, and chapters across the United States.  Dr. Shaw writes, “Health care has become an unaffordable business monopoly that benefits the medical community and corporations the most, and patients the least. The United States is the only advanced civilized country without a guarantee of national health insurance. Other advanced countries spend less than the U.S. on health care, and provide health insurance to virtually all citizens.”

Born in Fond du Lac, Dr. Shaw grew up near downtown on 4th Street, attended St. Joseph School, and graduated from St. Mary Springs High School in 1968.  He is a graduate of St. Norbert College with majors in chemistry and biology.  Dr. Shaw graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health in 1976.  His specialty is otolaryngology (ear, nose & throat).  Dr. Shaw is a veteran of the U.S. Army with service in Operation Desert Storm. Since 2004 he has served as a Clinical Instructor at UW-Madison medical school.

Dr. Shaw has received over twenty awards, including Outstanding Intern of the Year, U.S. Army Flight Surgeon of the Year, numerous teaching awards, Soldier of the Year, many other military citations, Mentor of the Year, Best Doctor in Madison, Fox Cities, and Green Bay as rated by Colleagues, and a Presidential Citation from the Wisconsin State Medical Society.  Married to Maureen, their family includes sons Frank and Peter, and four grandchildren.
