FDL Police Also Concerned About Violent Crime

Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb says the men and women of his department are just as concerned about recent violent crimes as the rest of the City’s residents. Lamb told the City Council last night they are aware of the public’s feeling about recent shooting incidents and highly publicized incidents like windows being smashed out of over 60 vehicles and a man entering homes naked. He says those crimes disturb them too, but they worked diligently to get arrests in the majority of those cases. He says over a six year period from 2008 to 2013 there was a 31 percent cumulative increase in violent crime in the City. However he says from 2012 to 2013 that type of crime dropped 19 percent and it has been trending downward this year. He says the big picture is our part of the nation has grown to be one of the most densely populated parts of the U.S. He says you add to that the number of people suffering from mental illness, depressive episodes, substance abuse and those living in poverty and crime is going up. He says while he applauds the community’s concern he also asks them to get involved in programs like Neighborhood Watch and be the eyes and ears of police. He says it’s helped with recent arrests.

Chief is right. It does take a community to raise not only a child but a safer community in which to reside
