FDL Police And Fire Training Center

Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb talked to the City Council this week about the importance of proper training as he reviewed his department’s budget needs for 2017. Specifically that had to do with a proposed police and fire training center. Lamb says officers have to do enough firing range training so they develop “muscle memory” and don’t have to think about what they are doing when they get into a situation which might require deadly force. Last year the department did 137 use of force reviews; 58 of which involved drawing guns on someone. Lamb says thankfully those guns didn’t have to be used. City Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan says she wants to know more before the Council commits to borrowing up to $4 million for the center. Lamb says a consultant will develop a master plan that will give them a better idea of what the proposed training center will cost.
