FDL Police Department Working Toward Accreditation

The Fond du Lac Police Department has embarked on an effort to get accreditation through the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group. Police Chief Bill Lamb told the City Council last week that accreditation is normally a two to four year effort. Two public sessions have already been held to get residents input. Police Captain Aaron Goldstein also needed the City Council’s thoughts. Council President Karyn Merkel said protecting the public is foremost, but the department also needs the public’s respect. She felt police needed to be open and honest with residents and to be involved in the community. Councilman Derek TerBeest believes crime prevention is as important as enforcement. Chief Lamb told the Council there will be a mock assessment of the department for the accreditation in May of 2019 and the full assessment will be in November of 2019.
