FDL Post Office Now Officially Named After Lt Colonel James Maggie Megellas

It’s now official the Fond du Lac Post Office has been renamed after Lt. Colonel James “Maggie” Megellas a native son and World War II hero. More than 100 people attended the dedication ceremony at the post office Tuesday morning. City Manager Joe Moore says every time he will go to the post office now he will think of the oath Megellas took during World War II to protect our country. Brigadier General, Brian Winski, the Deputy Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division, says every one in the 82nd knows of the courageous action of Megellas during World War II and his lifetime of service to the nation. Megellas, who is now 99-years-old, says he has received many honors for his service, but says it is humbling to have a post office in his home town named after him. The American Legion Post in Fond du Lac also has its building named after Megellas.  Photo above courtesy of Steve “axle” Hinkley.
