FDL Public Library Readers Log Over Three Million Minutes Read

The Fond du Lac Public Library hit a new record for participation in its summer reading program. Library Director Jon Mark Bolthouse recently told the City Council the “Ready, Set, Read!” program had nearly 4,800 participants. He says that is an increase of 184 percent in the participating rate with about 2,791 of their participants being children. He says even more incredible was the total number of minutes read. He says summer reading participants logged over 3.4 million reading minutes. To put it in perspective he told the Council that Wisconsin Rapids Library officials said they would sleep on the roof if the kids in their summer reading programmed logged 5,000 hours (300,000 minutes) reading.
