FDL Residents Lobbying For More Cancer Research Funding

A former Fond du Lac man and his mother were in Washington, D.C. Tuesday to lobby federal lawmakers for more money for cancer research. Ian Lock says actually they were trying to accomplish a couple of things. That included lobbying for increased federal research funding, co-sponsoring patient quality of life legislation, and to eliminate surprise costs for seniors getting colorectal screenings. Ian was a sophomore at Fond du Lac High School when he found out he had bone cancer. He nearly lost his leg, but 16 chemotherapy treatments and 7 surgeries allowed him to keep his leg and live a normal life. He says without cancer research and funding that wouldn’t have been the case. His mother Kay works for the Fond du Lac County Health Department. She says funding cancer research and programs should be a priority for the nation’s lawmakers.
