FDL School Board Approves Nondiscrimination Policies

The Fond du Lac School Board Monday night adopted a dozen nondiscrimination policies. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says the policies were based on suggestions of a company they worked with that has helped over 200 school districts with their policies. Sebert also says that includes suggestions that came out of conversations they held over the past year with LGBTQ students about transgender equality issues. Transgender status, change of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity are all addressed in the policies, which should provide the protection students were talking about. Sebert and District Health and Safety Program Coordinator Marian Sheridan worked with LGBTQ students this past year. Sebert says he learned quite a bit from those talks. A couple of gender neutral restrooms were created at the high school as a result and some major steps were taken forward. The School Board last evening also honored 7th grade teacher Gina Rieder and the Sabish Middle School Elves with a Fondy Pride Award.
