FDL School Board to Vote on Investing $1.5 Million Toward new Turf Field at FDLHS

The Fond du Lac School Board tonight will consider
authorizing financial support for construction of a new turf athletic field at
Fond du Lac High School. The board will consider a motion approving $1.5
million dollars from the district’s general fund to support the facility
upgrades.

Supporters of the project say the commitment from the board
would help support private fundraising for the project, and would allow the
first of two proposed projects – the new stadium with artificial turf field –
to be funded, provided all private funding was raised. The second project, a
multi-use indoor facility, has also been presented to the board. The amount of
private fundraising for the projects is said to be $3.5 million dollars.

Financial support from the district would be capped at $1.5
million so as to allow the general fund balance to remain above its target of
15 percent.  Taxes would not be raised
for the project and the project would not begin until the private funds were
raised.

A petition on Change.org directed toward the School Board
has over 1,200 signatures as of Sunday night.

The board meets at 5:30 pm at the District Administration Center
on West Ninth Street in Fond du Lac.
