FDL School District Gets PEP Grant

A three-year $1.2 million grant will allow the Fond du Lac School District to implement the Mindfully Active Community or MAC Project. The district submitted the MAC project to the U.S. Department of Education to be considered for a Carol M. White Physical Education Program or PEP Grant. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says Fond du Lac and Sheboygan were the only two districts in the state to get the grants. Only 16 of the grants were awarded across the country. The goal is to improve the overall wellness of the 7,340 students in the Fond du Lac School District. Sebert says a lot of that involves the choices kids make. He says that includes better choices in terms of being more physically active and eating habits. It will also include wearable technologies that will help kids establish personal fitness goals. Dru Mitchell, a teacher in the district, will serve as the PEP Grant Project Director.
