FDL School District State Aid Could Drop By More Than A Million Dollars

According to initial estimates by the state’s Department of Public Instruction the Fond du Lac School District will receive about $1.5 million less in the general aid from the state this academic year. The state budget still has to be finalized, but DPI officials say more than half of the public school districts in the state will receive less general aid than this past school year. Fond du Lac Schools Business Director Wendy Brockert says they are disappointed that their aid will be decreasing. She says the decrease falls within the range they were anticipating. She says they anticipated a decrease due to decreasing enrollment over the previous year and an increase in equalized property value. She says on the bright side their overall state aide is greater than the 2013-14 school year. In Fond du Lac County the Waupun School District will also receive less and the Campbellsport, North Fond du Lac, Oakfield, Rosendale-Brandon and Ripon School Districts will receive more. The North Fond du Lac School District will get over $528,000 more. Republican members of the state’s Joint Finance Committee say the DPI figures are not accurate and the budget plan includes a significant increase for public school districts.
