FDL Wastewater Treatment Facility Proclamation And Name Change

The Wastewater Treatment Facility in Fond du Lac got a proclamation and name change at last week’s City Council meeting. The proclamation was in honor of it being named a Utility of the Future, something only 61 public and private utilities across the U.S., Canada, and Denmark share.  Wastewater Superintendent Autumn Fisher says they are a regional facility. She says they treat the City’s waste and that of 18 surrounding communities. She says some of the byproducts from the waste are recovered and reused. She says they treat about 8 million gallons of water a day, which produces three byproducts. She says effluent goes into Lake Winnebago, bio-solids are used as fertilizer on farm fields, and biogas helps to produce some of the electricity that runs the plant. The Council also approved a name change for the facility to the Fond du Lac Regional Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery Facility.
