FDLFR Reminds Residents to Keep Hydrants Clear of Snow

After some fresh snow to start the weekend, officials with
Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue are asking residents to keep fire hydrants near
their home clear of snow. The Fire Department recommends clearing a three-foot
area around the hydrant, along with a shoveled path from the hydrant to the
street so firefighters can access it. “Every second that we’re spent trying to
shovel the hydrant out, or get the caps off and get water hooked up, is more
time its burning your home,” Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase said.
“You’re really helping yourself by making sure those are clear.” Haase also
suggests helping the elderly along with other friends and neighbors keep their
hydrants clear of snow.
