Federal Government Shutdown

Mail will keep coming as will Social Security and Medicare benefits, but the first time in 17 years the federal government is shutdown because lawmakers couldn’t reach an agreement by last night’s deadline. A number of federal employees will keep working including air traffic controllers, the military, federal prison officials and others. It’s estimated that 825,000 of the estimated 2 million federal employees will not be on the job, and paychecks may be delayed for other workers. National parks will be closed and federal occupational safety and health inspectors will stop inspections. The exception would be in cases of imminent danger. The Women, Infants and Children program known as WIC could shut down. School lunches and breakfasts will continue to be served and food stamps will continue to be distributed.  For more on the shutdown check the Fox News website.
