FERC Approves Emergency Shipments of Propane to Wisconsin

Temporary emergency shipments of propane are headed to the Midwest,
after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved them this week. This
year’s late harvest and colder temperatures have caused the region to face a
potential propane shortage, and Governor Tony Evers declared an energy
emergency in late October in anticipation of high demand for propane.

Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind was one of the lawmakers who
sent a letter to the FERC expressing concerns over propane distribution. Kind said
in a news release that nearly 250,000 residents and a number of businesses and
farms throughout the state rely on propane fuel. Kind said that while the
emergency shipments will help those in need of assistance, “we need to keep
working to find a long-term solution so shortages and emergency declarations
like this don’t keep happening.”
