Fewer Fires

A volunteer with the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross says they are seeing fewer home and apartment fires these days. Peter Sensenbrenner says the average number of responses to fires has gone down since he worked out of the Fond du Lac office during the last decade. He says at that time they responded to about 18 fires a year and now they go to about 12. He attributes that to homes and appliances being safer, fire prevention education, and working smoke detectors. He says the Red Cross has been working with fire departments on a program that supplies smoke detectors to people in need. Sensenbrenner recommends if you are moving into a new place to have the wiring checked, which could also prevent a fire.
