Fiery Accident On Highway In Dodge County

Dodge County Sheriff’s officials say a 20-year-old Horicon man was injured when his car crossed over the centerline on Highway 33 east of Horicon Thursday morning and struck a semi with a tank trailer. Robert Babiak was driving a Chevy Malibu west on the highway near Noble Road when his car went over the centerline and struck the tank trailer being driven by 56-year-old Carl Wintheiser of Oconomowoc. The semi spun in a counter clockwise direction and overturned, causing a large fire. The tanker was carrying ethanol and firefighters let it burn itself out. Babiak suffered critical injuries and was flown by Flight for Life to Summit Hospital. Wintheiser suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Summit Hospital. Highway 33 was closed for about 9 ½ hours. The accident in the Town of Hubbard was reported at 8:25 a.m.

Dodge County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a two-vehicle accident on State Highway 33 east of Horicon. A eastbound tanker overturned and caught fire after it collided with a westbound car. The tanker was carrying ethanol. Fire crews decided to let it burn out. The car managed to make it away from the burning truck. The semi-driver suffered minor injuries and the car driver was flown to a hospital by Flight for Life.
