Fire Chief Reminds Drivers To Watch For Kids On Bikes

Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary is urging parents and drivers to look out for the welfare of kids on bicycles following two accidents in the past week. A child ended up at a Neenah hospital following an accident last Friday. Tuesday morning a 12-year-old girl was taken to St. Agnes Hospital with minor injuries after she was struck by a vehicle at Merrill and Main. Chief O’Leary urges parents to talk to their kids about checking for traffic when they are crossing streets with their bikes. He also cautions drivers to expect the unexpected when they see a kid on a bike. He says the other thing is make sure your child is equipped with a bicycle helmet. The police department has bike helmets for those who may not be able to afford one.
