Five Injured In Accident On Highway 23

Names have been released from the three-vehicle Highway 23 accident east of Fond du Lac Wednesday that injured five people. Daniel and Christine Jury of New London (ages 57 and 65 respectively) were in the first vehicle struck by the truck. In the second vehicle 48-year-old Lisa Head of Fond du Lac and Gerald and Mary Head (74 and 72-years-old respectively) of Dodge Center, Minnesota. Fifty-nine-year-old Randy Miles of Merrill was driving the semi-truck that hit those two vehicles when it crossed over the centerline.

Five people were hurt when a semi crossed the centerline on Highway 23 east of Fond du Lac late Wednesday morning and struck two other vehicles. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Sergeant Paul Rottscholl says the accident east of Tower Road in the Town of Empire happened at 11:06 a.m. The semi was being driven by a 59-year-old Merrill man. The first vehicle he struck was being driven by a 57-year-old New London man and the second by a 48-year-old Fond du Lac woman. That second vehicle went into a ditch and rolled over several times ejecting a 74-year-old man who was in the backseat. The Fond du Lac woman and 72-year-old woman who was a front seat passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle. They were taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Flight for Life helicopter flew the 74-year-old man to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The New London man and 65-year-old woman who was a passenger in the first vehicle were taken to St. Agnes Hospital. The semi driver wasn’t hurt. Sheriff’s deputies and the State Patrol were assisted at the scene by the Mt. Calvary Ambulance and Fire Department, the City of Fond du Lac Fire Department and Paramedic Units and Flight for Life. The accident remains under investigation.

Five people were hurt in a
three-vehicle accident on State Highway 23 east of Fond du Lac late this
morning. County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says a westbound semi crossed over
the centerline and struck a vehicle with two people in it and a second vehicle
with three more people. All five people were taken to area hospitals. Some were
taken to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center and others to St. Agnes Hospital.
Olig says both Flght for Life and ThedaStar helicopters responded to the scene.
The most seriously injured were in the vehicle that had three people in it. The
truck driver was not injured. Fond du Lac and Mt. Calvary ambulance, and Fond du
Lac fire engines also responded to the scene. The accident happened shortly
after 11 a.m. just East of Tower Road shutting down Highway 23 in that
area.
