Former NFDL Fire Chief Waives Pennsylvania Hearing

Former North Fond du Lac Fire Chief Richard Zmuda waived a preliminary hearing Tuesday on theft charges he’s facing in Pennsylvania. The 41-year-old Bradford, Pennsylvania resident is facing three theft charges, 1 felony and 2 misdemeanor counts. He allegedly took more than $48,000 from an aunt who had entrusted him with insurance monies she had received after her father’s death. According to the Bradford Era newspaper Zmuda is free on a $20,000 bail. He was with the Bradford Fire Department when North Fond du Lac hired him last August to be their fire chief. In September he was arrested at the North Fond du Lac village offices on a warrant and was extradited back to Pennsylvania a few days later.
