Fox Valley Workforce Development Board Will Work With Laid Off Saputo Employees

The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board will be working with Saputo Cheese employees in Fond du Lac who are laid off with the closing of that facility. Anthony Snyder is the Chief Executive Officer with the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board. He told KFIZ News they will be figuring out what skills those employees have and what training they might need to get another job along the I-41 corridor. He says, “We will actually help them find their next role. Whether it be in another cheese factory or another food manufacturing plant or maybe some of them are looking for their next opportunity going into financial services or computers or welding. They should really consider this their second life.” Snyder points out there are employers right now that are desperate for skilled labor and the board wants to help make a match. He says, “The thing to remember is that they shouldn’t panic. They shouldn’t get alarmed. They shouldn’t worry too much. Unemployment is so low in our area right now that most of these individuals can take these skills to any number of other food processing plants, manufacturing facilities, other businesses up and down I-41.” About 120 Saputo employees will be laid off. The company will be closing the Fond du Lac facility by June 1st.
