Fruit Juice But Only In Moderation

Dentists recommend just how much fruit juice you should allow your kids to have during a day if you want to limit the impact on their dental health. The amount depends on their age, but for younger children it is less. They should only have 4 to 6 ounces of juice and only as part of a meal or snack. Dr. Maddie Walter of Dental Associates in Fond du Lac says kids can have more as they get older, but again that is as part of a meal. Dental hygienist Andra Story says there is a misconception that if you water down the juice it will be less harmful to teeth, but that is not the case. Fruit juice and sports drinks contain a lot of sugar so dentists urge parents to offer their kids water to keep them hydrated.
