GBCI Placed on Lockdown after Inmate-on-Staff Assault on Friday

Green Bay Correctional Institution was placed on lockdown
Friday morning after an inmate attacked a staff member. The Department of
Corrections reports that an employee was injured during the inmate-on-staff
assault.

The employee received medical attention, but no information was
released on the severity of those injuries. An internal investigation is now
underway – and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the assault.

Last year, the Department of Corrections made changes like adding cameras and
adjusting inmate movement – and has said that forced overtime and a shortage of
officers are also factors in a recent increase in attacks on corrections
officers.
