Giles Unanimously Appointed To FDL City Council

The Fond du Lac City Council unanimously appointed Greg Giles to the vacancy on the Council Wednesday night. But first the Council addressed a possible conflict of interest. Giles is the Executive Director and CEO of the Fond du Lac YMCA and Police Chief Bill Lamb and Community Development Director Wayne Rollin serve on the YMCA’s Board of Directors. As YMCA board members Lamb and Rollin have firing authority over Giles with the YMCA, while Giles as a Council member would be voting on issues that come up with Lamb and Rollin’s departments. City Attorney Deb Hoffmann’s opinion was that it wouldn’t be a conflict of interest. Giles says the possibility exists that any Council member may have to remove themselves from a vote, but he wasn’t worried about that in applying for the vacancy on the Council. Council President Sam Meyer brought up the possible conflict, but says he supports Giles on the Council and Giles should make a fine addition to it.
