Giles Will Fill FDL City Council Vacancy

Fond du Lac YMCA Executive Director and CEO
Greg Giles will be appointed to the vacancy on the Fond du Lac City Council
Wednesday night. After interviewing four candidates Monday afternoon the Council
took a straw vote and four favored Giles and the other two former Council
President Mark Jurgella. In the original vote the two tied at three points
apiece, but Councilwoman Lee Ann Lorrigan lobbied hard for Giles. She said
several City residents urged her to strongly consider Giles when they found out
he applied for the vacancy. Councilwoman Catherine Block orginally voted for
Jurgella, but changed her mind and voted for Giles. Former Councilman Jeff
Ruedinger and Sarah Feltes were the other two candidates. Councilman Gary Miller
told his fellow council members that he didn’t agree with the selection process
and at a previous Council meeting said he thought the Council should have
appointed former Councilman Mick Burroughs to the Council after Burroughs
finished fifth in last month’s election for four seats on the Council. Council
members Lorrigan, Block, Karyn Merkel and Brian Foster voted in favor of Giles
and Miller and Council President Sam Meyer in favor of Jurgella. The Council
will make its vote official Wednesday night and Giles will be seated at the
Council’s May 28th meeting.
