Governor Signs Legislation That Battles Heroin Problem

Efforts designed to help in the battle with heroin are now law in Wisconsin. The bills were authored by state Representative John Nygren, whose daughter has struggled with addiction. He says the two components he’s proudest of for the seven bills is one called the “Good Samaritan” law and the Narcan law which allows first responders to administer Narcan in heroin overdoses. He says paramedics in Marinette administered Narcan in 2007 when his daughter overdosed and her friends left her to die. He says it saved here life. Other bills provide grant money for diversion programs and to boost prescription drug disposal programs. Governor Walker signed the bills during a ceremony in Marinette Monday.
