Grants Available to Help Inmates with Opioid Use Disorders
Inmates living with opioid use disorders at 16 county jails
around
are now eligible for a medication-assisted treatment program funded through a
grant from the Department of Health Services.
The program is designed to help
people stay off heroin and prescription painkillers after they are released. Participating
inmates receive a dose of an injectable medication before their release that
treats opioid use disorder – and then they are placed on a treatment plan after
release that includes counseling and follow-up injections.
