Gudex Comments On School Aid Increase

Madison—Today, as required by Wisconsin state statues, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction released the funding amounts that school districts across the states can expect to receive in general school aids.

School districts across the state will see an increase of $94.4 million, or a 2.1% increase in general school aids. This represents a total of $4.476 billion provided to schools in Wisconsin.

The $4.476 billion does not include the per pupil categorical aids. Categorical aids for programs such as special education, Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE), transportation aid and bilingual-bicultural programs will total $748.9 million for the 2014-2015 school year.

In addition to the general school aids and categorical aid, school districts will also receive an appropriation of $127 million for per pupil categorical aid, $150 per pupil, a $75 per pupil increase over the 2013-2014 school year.

“I am happy to have advocated for additional resources for our school districts in the state. Our educational system is something that is important to the vitality of our children in Wisconsin. I remain committed to improving our K-12 system, and this increase in funding represents only one portion of our educational path to prosperity. I remain focused on providing our children pathways to success, and I’m looking forward to continuing to improve our system in the next legislative session.” said Senator Rick Gudex (R-Fond du Lac).
