Haase Race Across America Effort Inspiring

The Fond du Lac man who finished with the second fastest time in the recent Race Across America says he appreciates the support he got from the community during the effort. Dave Haase had the fastest American time finishing the 3,004 mile bicycle race in 8 days, 20 hours and 6 minutes. He says his goal was to finish under 9 days. It takes a lot of endurance. He had to eat something each hour, which meant fruit, lots of liquid, smoothies and some super foods. He’d eat one nutritional meal just before he got some sleep each night, which was usually limited to about 2 hours a day. He also had to deal with the saddle sores you get from being on a bike that long. Haase says the community tribute to him at Buttermilk Creek Park last Wednesday night meant a lot to him. He says some of the best compliment he received after his feat was from people who drew inspiration from what he did. Haase says he hasn’t decided whether he will participate in next year’s Race Across America. This year’s race was his first since 2008.
