Habitat Home Dedication Saturday In FDL

Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County is inviting the public to their dedication ceremony tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for the home they have been building at 16 South Hickory Street in Fond du Lac. Brittany Steinke and her family will be moving into the new home. Habitat Executive Director Paul Osterholm says Brittany and her kids have been living in apartments and now they will have their own home with a backyard and a Taylor Park just down the street. Osterholm says they will also be building a home in Ripon this fall. He says they will begin building it in September and hope it is ready for occupancy in November. Pictured the Steinke family.

Nothing more than rewarding irresponsible behavior. Five children from two or more fathers. No father in the pic. Will they also live on the gov't dole: welfare, food stamps, etc? Who's next in line? Facilitating this behavior encourages more of the same. When will we reach the tipping point of more takers than givers?

Couldn't agree more. Unbelievable!

That is the most irresponsible, immature response I have seen in a long time! These families earn these homes through hard work!

I see the knuckle dragging bigots are out in force.
Just so great that they "know".

Until people walk in someone elses shoes maybe they should not be judging others. Brittany has gone above and beyond for her children and her sisters. Wish everyone was as perfect as the people in the above comments

Any one thinking about the children?

People who posted the negative comments above make me ill. Just because you are a single mother does not mean you are completely irresponsible. And even if she was at a certain time in her life does not mean she is now. And regardless of how irresponsible she is or was, children could really use a stable home. This is a young girl who is raising her three children and also her two sisters, does not sound overly irresponsible to me. You don't just sign up for these houses and they draw your name and then you get to sit back while everyone does everything for you and pays for it. People really need to think before they speak, because all your doing is looking ignorant. For the ones who think this will encourage this behavior, what do you suggest will solve these problems? Unstable homes? Staying in abusive or negative relationships just so DAD is in the picture? Enlighten me please.

They help build, they qualify for a loan, they pay for it. It is their home and they deserve it!

I see the bleeding heart liberal, occupy, protesting, spread the wealth, socialists are out there too.
Our society is in a downward spiral and it is alright with the left faction. C'mon people realize what is hapening to this once great country.
Our morals are in the toilet. Everything is OK. Making money is bad, taking money is good.
How about a "hand Up' and not a "hand out?"

I would like to see the statistics on how many of these "deserving" people stay in their Habitat house. I've heard many reports of not making the loan payments, bankruptcy, houses trashed in a short time. It only takes a couple of years before the house is lost and they are back in the same situation.
I hope it's not the case here, but, history tends to repeat itself.

I don't believe this would be a handout. This I would consider an opportunity.

To whom ever made the first comment about rewarding someone who is irresponsible, that was a very judgmental and unfair statement. There recently was an article about the family in the paper. I believe she has 3 children of her own and is also raising her two sisters. Perhaps you should know the facts before you belittle someone else.

For all you whining right wingers, none of these are done on your tax dollar.

The left wing nut jobs are here in force.
You better not work
You better not try
Get your handout
I'm telling you why
Baracka Claus is coming to town

If you're a success
I'm taxing you twice
Gonna reverse who's naughty and nice
Baracka Claus is coming to town

I'll pay you just for sleepin'
Don't work, stay home and play
You will care if you're bad or good
Cuz if you're bad you get more cake

George B, and your point is?
It has nothing to do with this article.
You don't qualify for a Habitat home by laying around on your back in a shack.

What I would like to know is where are all of these people going to sleep. Unless this house is a 4 bedroom house (which I doubt) there are going to be kids sleeping in places other than beds. 1 bedroom for the mother, 1 for the 2 boys, and 1 for the girl. So where do the sisters stay? Also, how old are these sisters? Are they over eighteen? If so time to get jobs and get your own place.
Anonymous commented on 28-Jul-2013 11:41 AM3 out of 5 stars
Mom and daughter same bedroom.
Daughter and the 2 sisters same bedroom.
The girls don't look over 18.

Besides, it is not your business what someone does in their privatly owned home.

what is the definition of privatly? i couldn't locate that word in the dictionary

i believe the gentleman was simply stating that in housing homes, any children under the age of 18 need to have their own bedroom or share a bedroom with a sibling of the same sex... i don't see where this family of six is going to have enough bedrooms to fulfill the requirements.
