Harbor Haven Remodel Bid Accepted

By a 20 to 4 vote the Fond du Lac County Board Tuesday evening went with a County Committee’s action approving the second lowest bid for the second phase of the Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center remodeling project. The Highway, Airport and Facilities Committee accepted the $2.9 million bid from Joseph Schmitt & Sons Construction Company. It was $23,000 higher than the lowest bid. County Executive Al Buechel says Joseph Schmitt has nearly 27 years of experience in working with health care facilities, while the lowest bidder, SMA Construction Services, had none. Recently Schmitt completed projects for the Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa and Sheboygan Senior Community, which project manager Jake Schurr says lived up to state requirements and the owner’s needs. County Supervisor Marty Ryan works on the committee that accepted the bid. He told the board the committee had made a wise decision. Work is expected to start on the project next month.
