High Speed Chase Culminates At Airport In Oshkosh

A 56-year-old Manitowoc man was taken into custody after leading a state trooper on a high speed chase on I-41 that culminated at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. The State Patrol says a trooper tried to stop a speeding vehicle on I-41 northbound south of State Highway 44 in Winnebago County. But the vehicle turned into the City of Oshkosh, then Knapp Road and rammed a gate to get into the airport. The suspect, Lee Konop, drove around a few of the access roads around the airport before entering the runway portion of the airport. His car became disabled between two runways and he was taken into custody without incident. Airport personnel diverted any affected flights. Konop was alleged going over 100 miles per hour during part of the chase. He suffered non-life threatening injuries after crashing through the gate and was taken to Mercy Hospital.
