Highway 45 Fire

Update:

Firefighters were able to put out a grass fire off Highway 45 about a mile north of Scott Street this morning. Troy Haase the Division Chief of Fire Prevention for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue says with high fire conditions it’s like a carelessly tossed cigarette butt started the blaze. He says there doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious.  He says it was a battle to keep it from jumping over the road. Haase says they managed to keep it on the east side of the road, but if it had lept over the road they would have had to deal with railroad tracks and other issues. He says the tall grass and high winds didn’t help their efforts. He says it burnt fast and it burnt hot and high spreading across the marsh. The Fond du Lac and Van Dyne Fire Departments were helped out by Town of Fond du Lac, Oshkosh and other fire departments. Haase says if he had to guess about 5 to 10 acres burned.
