House Fire On Ruggles Street

Fire heavily damaged a home at 394 Ruggles Street in Fond du Lac Monday morning. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says they got a call to the two-story wood frame house about 8:30 a.m.  A woman who lives in the home was trapped and firefighters were able to get her out through a window on the first story. She was taken to St. Agnes Hospital to be checked over. Police gave her husband a ride to the hospital and he too began suffering some medical issues. Chief O’Leary says firefighters had to deal with several conditions that made the fire more difficult to fight. The home is surrounded by trees and brush and the cold weather froze the fire hydrants being used to put out the blaze. O’Leary says they also had problems getting in the home because it was packed with belongings. No firefighters were injured fighting the fire. A total off 55 firefighters were called. In addition to Fond du Lac firefighters there were crews from Lamartine, Town of Fond du Lac, Eden, Mt. Calvary and some off-duty Fond du Lac firefighters. Fire investigators are looking at an electrical issue as the possible cause. The Red Cross was called to assist.Fond du Lac Fire Department photos.
