How To See Art

Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) will host a free lecture for the public by Riverwalk Art Center owner Kathryn Dreifuerst Wednesday, April 12.

Dreifuerst will talk about “Seeing Art: How to look at art to find meaning, gain understanding, and learn to love art.”

The event is part of THELMA’s Lecture series, a free event focusing on visual arts, music, film and theatre. The lecture begins at 7 pm.

Dreifuerst is an artist, gallery director, art educator and art advocate. She worked in the Rosendale-Brandon and Ripon school districts teaching art for 17 years. She opened Riverwalk Art Center in 2011. Her mission is to “educate, inspire, and delight the community with art.” She is a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists, Soroptimist International-Fond du Lac, and the Fond du Lac City Arts Board.

The goal of the lecture is to educate non-artists about art that is sometimes difficult to understand. She will show a diverse selection of famous art works and discuss subject matter, the formal elements of art, the principles of design, and the nature of truth and beauty.

The audience will participate in the lecture by asking and answering questions then deciding for themselves, “how to look at art.”

Viewing art at THELMA is free to the public, thanks to the generosity of Horicon Bank. Horicon Bank has a tradition steeped in art and shares the belief that art should be accessible to all.

The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, from 11 am to 3 pm Saturdays and Sundays and during events. Check THELMA’s website for any changes in the hours due to private events.

THELMA is located at 51 Sheboygan St., in the heart of Downtown Fond du Lac’s Arts and Entertainment District. THELMA is a privately-funded non-profit dedicated to providing arts experiences not readily available in the area. Learn more about THELMA at thelmaarts.org, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
