Humphries Runs For State Schools Superintendent

One of the announced candidates for the State Superintendent of Schools seat used to work for the state’s Department of Public Instruction. John Humphries left the DPI in 2011 to work for the Beloit School District and currently is working with the Dodgeville School District. He says he was approached about running for the office over 10 years ago, but now is a better time. He says a year ago he started laying the groundwork to run for State Superintendent developing a platform and traveled the state to talk about his ideas for education reform and improvement. Humphries feels the state could be doing a better job of educating are youth. He notes the state hasn’t done well on the Nation’s Report Card particularly when it comes to reading scores. He says in 2015 Wisconsin was 25th in the nation and has bumped between 25th and 30th in the nation the last four times the assessment has been given across the nation.  Humphries says he has a good team and platform in place. He feels after 16 years of having Tony Evers lead the DPI, it is time for a change. (Photo from Humphries website).
