Initial Report On EAA AirVenture Crash

An initial report from the NTSB indicates that a plane that crashed approaching the runway at Wittman Regional Airport during last week’s EAA AirVenture may have been trying to avoid another plane on the runway. According to the NTSB report the pilot of the Piper Malibu was approaching the airstrip when he noticed another plane being taxied onto the same runway. The pilot was going to abandon the landing, but the air traffic control tower gave him instructions to land the plane further down the runway. Continuing his approach the pilot pulled back on the power and the plane stalled. The crash resulted in a fire. All five people on board were injured in the July 22nd crash.
