Invasive Species Transferred in Firewood

Officials are asking campers to leave their firewood at home to prevent the spread of invasive species. The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection recommends buying firewood wherever you are camping. They say it’s never a good idea to move firewood because pests may be hidden inside – or be microscopic. Invasive species like the emerald ash borer and gypsy moth are threatening forests in the state. Oak wilt and other diseases can also be spread through firewood.
