Johnson Street Closure, Lane Restrictions Begin Today

A portion of Johnson Street is closed and another section as lane restrictions as public works crews perform work on crosswalks and other maintenance projects. Beginning early this morning, Johnson Street between Hickory Street and Main Street – including the Johnson Street Bridge – is closed to traffic as crews remove the brick pavers in crosswalks. City crews will also be performing other maintenance in the work zones, and a contractor will be performing repairs to the Johnson Street Bridge during the closure. Traffic at the cross street intersections for north and south streets will be maintained, and access to businesses will be maintained through adjacent streets. Weather permitting, the section between Hickory and Main Street may open to regular traffic for the Memorial Day weekend.

A second section of Johnson Street between Peters Avenue and Hickory Street will see lane restrictions starting today. Two-way traffic will be set up in the eastbound lanes to begin, and once crosswalk work is complete, the two-way traffic will shift to the westbound lanes. The lane restrictions between Peters and Hickory are planned to be in place until Friday, June 7th.

A signed detour is in place for Johnson Street traffic using Interstate 41 and Highway 151, back to Johnson Street.
