Karyn Merkel Emerges As Frontrunner For FDL City Council Vacancy

The Fond du Lac City Council last night narrowed the list of candidates for a vacant seat on the Council down to three names with one apparent frontrunner. The Council interviewed the six finalists; Karyn Merkel, Nicholas Stoffel, Lynn Farr, JoEllyn Heinkel, Ron Schmitz and Philip Shepherd. In a straw vote after the interviews four of the Council members supported Merkel, and one each for Schmitz and Farr. Council President Sam Meyer says all three would serve the Council well, but he was one of the four who supports Merkel. He says all six of the finalists interviewed well and he hopes all 14 who submitted applications will think about running for Council next spring. The Council will meet briefly Friday afternoon to discuss whether to put one name in a resolution for next week’s meeting or all three and then vote to decide on who should sit on the Council. The person the Council select for the seat next week will be seated at the Council’s June 12th meeting.

Straw vote results:

Council members supporting Karyn Merkel-Meyer, Catherine Block, Lee Ann Lorrigan, and Dan Meyer.

Supporting Lynn Farr-Gary Miller.

Supporting Ron Schmitz-Rob Vande Zande.

How convenient. Then Charter can maintain it's monopoly grip on this town. This council is the usual good old boy joke!!!!

Another cable company will not enter a market in small cities that already have a provider. It is not profitable. This is not about Charter!! Karyn is a good person.(and no I don't work there.)

I made the switch to at&t Uverse, It's 10X better than Charter could ever even THINK of being, and the cost is less too. If it's available in your area GET IT and don't look back!

Karyn Merkel would be great for this. She works very hard at helping our City do great things; I don't understand the comments about where she works though. It could be compared to saying the owner of a local gas station is running for City Council so they can raise gas prices or not let any business that are not a Quick Trip’s into our City. Another example would be “we wouldn’t want one of the recycling owners around town to be on City Council because they will just make the city a big dump”. You have to look at the skills of a person without looking at where they work.
