Kayakers Rescued by Helicopter from Eldorado Marsh

A
National Guard helicopter was used to rescue two Fond du Lac men who had become lost in the
Eldorado Marsh Sunday afternoon. The Fond du Lac
County Communications
Center received a call around 4 pm
Sunday that two men had become disoriented while attempting to kayak the Fond du Lac River through the marsh and were lost.
Emergency dispatchers were able to pinpoint their location based on coordinates
from the 9-1-1 call – which plotted the kayakers three-fourths of a mile east
of Peterson Road.
The men were not adequately dressed for an extended stay and had become wet
from their travels. Authorities also say they had no navigation assistance
readily available. After rescue attempts by the Eldorado Fire Department
failed, Wisconsin Emergency Management was called. A helicopter from C Company 1st
Battalion, 168th aviation out of West Bend arrived around 8:15 pm and quickly
rescued the subjects. They were flown to the Fond du
Lac
County Skyport,
treated and released by City of Fond
du Lac
Paramedics.
