Three Arrested For Oshkosh High Schools Threats
Oshkosh Police have arrested three teenage boys for making a threat at Oshkosh North and West High Schools. Police say 18-year-old and 17-year-old boys from Oshkosh were arrested and were taken to the Winnebago County Jail. A 15-year-old runaway from Neenah was turned over to a juvenile detention facility. Each faces charges for making terrorist threats. The threat was made on Wednesday, but led to the closing of the schools on Thursday.
FDL Woman Gets Probation For Role In Armed Robbery
A 25-year-old Fond du Lac woman who was involved in a gas station robbery pled no contest to a theft charge in Fond du Lac County Court this week. Judge Richard Nuss placed Barbara Abernathy on probation for three years. She was one of three people involved in the robbery of the Highway 151 Mobile gas station in August of 2015. Abernathy drove the get away car. The others, Ronald Loving and Shawn Eubanks were sentenced to 15 years and 7 years in prison respectively.
Ripon Man Gets Prison Sentence For Child Porn Possession
A 44-year-old Ripon man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision on child pornography possession charges. Fond du Lac County Judge Richard Nuss this week sentenced Daniel Mattson on three counts of possessing child porn. Seventeen additional charges were read into the record and dismissed. Ripon Police were tipped off by two national agencies that deal in crimes against children, which led to the execution of a search warrant at Mattson’s home.
FDL Man Sentenced For Stealing From Quad Graphics
A Dodge County judge has sentenced a 45-year-old Fond du Lac man to two months in jail for stealing from his employer. Edward Drab Jr. pled no contest to a felony theft charge for taking $6,000 worth of copper wire from Quad Graphics in Lomira to support his drug addiction. Drab will have to pay restitution to Quad Graphics over the next couple of years or will end up serving up to a year in jail.
United Way Still A Little Shy Of Goal
With only a few days left the Fond du Lac Area United Way campaign has reached 93 percent of its fundraising goal. United Way Executive Director Amber Kilawee says they have raised $710,000 of their $760,000 goal. She does appreciate the fact that the community has already helped the United Way raise that amount of money. She appeals to those who haven’t given yet to consider it, because there is still time. She says although their goal is $760,000 the agencies they get funding requests totaling from $900,000 to $1 million every year. She says if they are able to make their goal it would be the fifth year in a row and that isn’t something they take for granted.
Red Cross Official Says Residential Fires Are Up
Red Cross chapters in Wisconsin have responded to 50 percent more residential fires during the first 11 days of the year compared to the same period last year. Barb Behling of the Red Cross says the 34 fires were spread out over 20 different counties and had various causes. She says in one a youth was playing with matches, another involved improper disposal of a cigarette, yet a third was a dryer fire. So far this year they’ve provided financial support to more than 200 people victimized by fires. She says for those who are displaced they provide a number of services making sure they have the medications they need, a place to stay or even a shoulder to cry on. She says the financial support for food, clothing and shelter is a gift to the family from the American Red Cross. Last year at this time the Red Cross had responded to 22 fires assisting 154 people financially.
Yahoo Breach
An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says the fact that Yahoo wasn’t able to detect two security breaches until a couple years later is reason enough to always monitor your personal information. Frank Frassetto says the breaches resulted in a lot of personal information being stolen. He says it included names, telephone numbers, email addresses, birth dates, encrypted passwords and other information. He says it is unknown how many Wisconsin residents were victims of the breaches. He says people should be in a constant monitoring frame of mind to protect their personal and financial information. He says you should check your statements and credit score on a regular basis. The breaches Yahoo recently released information about were from 2013 and 2014.
